Academy Spotlight: Through SouthTech’s Commercial Arts Academy, students master the Adobe Creative Suite, a software suite of graphic design, video editing and web development applications. They also learn basic fine art, and how to get employed and stay employed in the industry.
Academy Spotlight: Through SouthTech’s Motorcycle Technology Academy, students participate in classroom, shop and laboratory activities that train them in the design, construction, operation and general maintenance of the various manufacturers’ models of motorcycles, personal watercrafts, snowmobiles and scooters. SouthTech’s Auto Body Repair Academy students recently completed a new paint job of a 1978 Chevrolet Nova. As part of this academy, students are taught safety skills, how to properly use tools, and how to handle dent repair, masking, welding, paint prep, and more. Students also receive soft skills training that will help them professionally, such as working as both a team and individually.
Mr. Martinez’s Auto Body Repair Academy students recently made a presentation in class about catalytic converters and how they work. Through the academy, students not only learn to diagnose and repair vehicles, they learn to problem solve and use research to back up their findings.
SouthTech’s Culinary Arts Academy seniors sport their new chef jackets complements of Sysco Foods. Students start in the academy learning the basics in the kitchen, such as sanitation and safety, measuring and knife cuts. Then, they receive basic training certificates, which are important to employers when hiring. #SyscoFoods
