Music & Sound Production Academy

SouthTech is implementing Mark Galbo’s Rock and Roll Academy® (RRA) as part of the Recording Arts program and also as an elective for students in other Academies. The RRA is an innovative, state-of-the-art exploratory music program with a focus on music education through the formation of authentic student bands. Its mission is to create an environment where students have the freedom to make choices, take ownership of their learning, and develop independence of thought and spirit.

This fresh, new approach to teaching music focuses on building self-confidence and a strong stage presence, fosters teamwork and problem-solving skills, gives students a real-life experience as they take to the stage and perform, and develops Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies in all students. The music elective will meet graduation requirements as a fine arts credit. Planning is underway to include Music as a stand-alone career academy in the future.

Music education has been proven to enhance learning and to improve mastery of math and reading skills; it broadens students understanding and appreciation of the world around them. Music plays an integral part in social, emotional, and intellectual development.
