Medical Academic Courses
Orientation to Health Occupations - 6th grade:
This 9-week Wheel Class is going to provide students with an overview of the health care field. The basic entry level information that is covered serves as a solid foundation for all students in the health sciences or health occupations, regardless of the particular health care profession they are interested in pursuing.
Medical Skills and Services – 8th grade:
The purpose of this program is to give students an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills related to the area of Health Science career cluster. The content includes, but is not limited to, practical generic skills in health occupations. Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with the equipment, materials and technology appropriate to the course content and in accordance with current practices.
Anatomy, Physiology, and Disease – 7th grade:
This course is part of the secondary Health Core consisting of an overview of the human body, both structurally and functionally with emphasis on the pathophysiology and transmission of disease. Medical terminology is an integral part of the course.
The curriculum is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills which will enable them to function as safe, competent, and effective healthcare workers and prepare them for future employment in the field of healthcare. The delivery of this program provides and includes strategies that will enable the student to improve basic skills in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and to assist students to actualize their potential by developing capabilities necessary to achieve their career goals.
