Congratulations to Ms. Sandi Hagood, director of SouthTech’s Music and Sound Production Academy, who is one of 188 music teachers from across the country named as a quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Award™ presented by the Recording Academy™ and GRAMMY Museum®. The award recognizes current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools. Congratulations to the SouthTech Academy instructional trade team, Timothy Brown, Gary Coy, Eddy Martinez, Earl Murray and William Terry, who are among 52 semifinalists across the country for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools 2018 Prize for Teaching Excellence. They now advance to the next round of competition for one of 18 prize awards.
Several teachers were awarded 2018-19 GoTeach grants from the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County. These grants reward those who regularly inspire their students. Congratulations to STA teachers, Ms. Sweeney, Ms. Carstarphen, Ms. Hyett, Ms. Shamdasani, and Ms. Sonara.
STA’s Bulldog Readers were rewarded recently for their Excellence in Summer Enrichment. The grand prize winners included Woodny Alerte, Mardochee Camille, Vanessa Pierre, Monique Dawkins, Jessemie Charleus, Jada Woods, and Verranda Vixama. Well done, Bulldogs!
Congrats to four STA students who were awarded $250 scholarships, funded by Corporal Burt Richards, at a recent awards luncheon. Richards is a U.S. Army veteran who promotes veterans’ causes. Students were selected to receive the scholarships following the creation of an essay and speech on topics focused on veterans, and the history and significance of American traditions. Scholarship recipients included: Mateo Castano, “What is Memorial Day;” Rachel Gibbs, “The Last Monday of May;” Eliana St. Louis, “The Importance of Veterans Day and Memorial Day,” and Pressly Narcisse, “One Nation.
Congratulations to Teresa Trumble, who was a finalist for a Community Inclusion Award for her Post-Secondary Program of the Year at STA. The awards, created by the Special Needs Advisory Coalition of Palm Beach County, recognize individuals, and nonprofit and for-profit organizations committed to serving and supporting the special needs community.
