Testimonials
As Mary Carstarphen’s former cosmetologist student, it is my pleasure to provide you with insight of her daily professional work environment. Ms. Carstarphen has consistently demonstrated positive qualities in class including but not limited to: strong work ethic, outstanding organization, leadership skills, an ability to thrive with co-workers and students, passionate, shows care and concern for students, very patient, and, above all, shows respect in all aspects of her life.
A teacher’s personality is as important as the lessons that are taught in class. Ms. Carstarphen has a unique personality that has impacted me personally. As a respectable person, Ms. Carstarphen has modeled what professionalism looks like in the field of Cosmetology. Students have been able to improve without distractions because she has taken this career very seriously and wants the best for her students. Her relationship with her students is very important to her, and she has guided me in such a way no other teacher has. Because of this, I would want to imitate such professionalism. I feel that by doing this, I will succeed.
Without a great personality, learning will not be an exciting task. Ms. Carstarphen is the best in her teaching methods. She uses visual lessons that help students understand the topic more clearly, and what I love the most is that she involves students in her lessons. When putting the lesson learned into practice, she takes her time and advises students individually to help them become better in the Cosmetology field. Her lessons and instructions are very clear and specific, which is very important for a student to improve. Because of her, I have been able to appreciate this career very deeply. Also, the classroom is a place to work on a daily basis where students can learn how to treat each other and how to care for a client just like in an adult environment.
It is these positive qualities as well as her kind and zealous personality that lead me to believe that Ms. Carstarphen is a powerful asset to our school.

Over my 12 years of schooling, I have had many teachers that were mundane and ordinary, however, there have been a select few that have encouraged me to reach for the stars and excel at all that I do. One of these teachers was my 10th grade biology teacher Mrs. Ehring. Mrs. Ehring is one of those teachers that is an educator simply because it is in her nature; she is inclined to try to help kids learn and do their very best. One of her techniques that helped me the most was doing an interactive notebook. For me, doing this notebook allowed me to illustrate or draw out the meaning of a word and do activities to further my understanding on a subject. Mrs. Ehring did activities and used tools such as the Interactive Notebook to allow students to take in the information the best way they can whether it be hands on activities, book studies, or depicting and seeing. She once told me, “My goal is to expand your mind, even if I have to manipulate a project to do so.” Along with Mrs. Ehring’s ability to encourage students to learn and help them along, she also tries to help in a personal way. She is that teacher that you can walk into her room on any given day and be enveloped by a feeling of love and understanding. Mrs. Ehring is the type of teacher that encourages you to express yourself and to take things with a grain-of-salt. She has this aura of understanding that invites you in and makes you feel like you can tell her anything. Mrs. Ehring has been a huge inspiration to me in the last few years of my high school education and I will never forget her loving and encouraging ways.

Mrs. Kingsley has always been there for me when I needed someone and had no one else to turn to. She is the person who has influenced me the most in school. “I feel that people come to me because I’m understanding of their needs. I’m a very compassionate person and love to help my students,” said Mrs. Kingsley. Mrs. Kingsley has an open door policy. On several occasions I have seen her helping students with school and their personal lives. “Sometimes it feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders by helping, but if I can help at least one person solve a personal issue, it makes me feel accomplished,” she said. I honestly do not know where I would be right now if she had not stepped into my life when she did. She truly has helped me with a lot. “Yes, I feel that I have positively influenced many students. I have helped steer students in the right direction in life and job choices.” Helping students can be a tricky thing in my opinion. You never know what they are thinking. “I have helped many students understand and work through personal issues. I’m not sure I would say I helped them get better, but I feel I helped in some way.” When I’m having a bad day I can always go to Mrs. Kingsley and she will always be there. I remember the day I was talking to her and I started crying as puddles of water poured down my face, and she comforted me and assured me that she was there for me and she would help me however possible. “Most of my students call me Mom. I hold my relationships with my students very close and dear to my heart. They are my kids when on campus,” she said. Mrs. Kingsley is a role model for me and she teaches me in ways that teachers can’t. She teaches me things to use in life and things to help me get better. I remember when I was going through a rough time with my mom and it got to the point where it started to really affect me and my school work. Mrs. Kingsley was there for me, helping me find ways to try and fix my relationship with my mother. She was there listening to me when I needed it the most. “I feel like I’ve given you tools to help you respect yourself and to mend the relationship with your mom, and the ability to express yourself in a way that conveys information more effectively,” said Mrs. Kingsley. To me she is like Wonder Woman. She always tries to her best ability to do what is right and help who she can. Often I wonder how she can understand me so well and how she knows what to say and how to react. She claimed that the answer to that is simple. “I have experience in dealing with what my students have been through.”
